Scottish football: Hibernian will travel to Ibrox to face Rangers in the first round of the Challenge Cup

Championship new boys Rangers and Hibernian have been paired together in the opening round of the Petrofac Training Cup (formerly Ramsdens Cup).

No date has been set for the tie, due to Ibrox being used for the Commonwealth Games, but the other matches - including Hearts hosting Annan Athletic - will take place on Saturday, July 26.

In the Northern Section, holders Raith Rovers entertain fellow-Fifers Dunfermline while new Falkirk boss Peter Houston begins his time in charge with a short trip to East Stirlingshire.

Rangers manager Ally McCoist believes his side could not have been dealt tougher opponents saying: "It's an incredible draw really when you think about it, but at the same time it's a great game and a big game.

"We'll be playing our two Edinburgh rivals in the early stages of the season and who would have thought that would be the case even just a couple of months from the end of last term?

"We definitely want to do well in all the competitions, that's what Rangers have been doing for well over 100 years. They go into every competition to win but our priority will always be a league," he told the club's official website.

Hibs counterpart Stubbs said: "I'm really excited about the draw. Facing Rangers at Ibrox will be a massive game and a great early test for us so early in the season."
