Kyle Hutton has confirmed he sustained a broken leg in Rangers' Under-20 match with Partick Thistle.
The 22-year-old was carried off on a stretcher after being injured in a collision with Gary Fraser.
Hutton had only recently returned from a spell on the sidelines after suffering ankle ligament damage on Rangers' pre-season trip to Germany in July.
And he confirmed via his Twitter account that he faces an even more lengthy absence from playing after X-rays on his lower leg confirmed the worst.
Hutton wrote: "Got the results back and I have broken my leg, got no luck at the minute gutted is an understatement! Just need to try and look forward!"
Immediately after the match, Rangers coach Gordon Durie gave a cautious assessment of the injury, but suggested Hutton thought it may be serious at the time when he went down.
"It's not the same ankle he had surgery on last time but Kyle said he heard a crack before he went down," Durie told the club's official website.
"I think his studs got caught in the ground and the boy gave him a wee nick as well so we'll wait and see how he is."
