Mohsni slams Shrimpers chairman

Ipswich loan signing Bilel Mohsni has laid the blame for his Southend departure firmly at the door of chairman Ron Martin.

The versatile Frenchman is on loan at Portman Road until January, after refusing to return to the League Two club over the summer. Mohsni has now made clear that Martin's conduct was the reason he was unwilling to feature for Paul Sturrock's side this campaign. He told the Echo: "When our games ended last year, the chairman said if a big club came in for me he would sell me. West Ham wanted to sign me, but then the chairman asked for silly money and didn't sell me like he said he would. "That is why I didn't come back to Southend. After what the chairman did, I would rather not play at all than go and play for him. "I wouldn't wish what happened to me on anyone because it wasn't very nice at all." But Southend chief executive Steve Kavanagh has countered accusations made by Mohsni. Mohsni is currently on loan at Portman Road until January, after the Blues agreed a deal with the wantaway Frenchman. Kavanagh insists the club did all they could to help Mohsni. Kavanagh told the Echo: "He does have to understand this is not simply about Bilel Mohsni and it is my job to protect the interests of Southend United. "Just because he wants to play in a higher league does not mean we should not be properly compensated. "Southend did everything they could to get the deal done in the summer but sometimes these things just don't happen."
