Miller unfazed by Fletcher row

Scotland striker says debate has not added to pressure

Kenny Miller does not believe the debate over Steven Fletcher is adding to the pressure on Scotland's strikers following another disappointing display in front of goal against Serbia. Craig Levein's men played out a 0-0 draw in their opening World Cup qualifier at Hampden Park on Saturday, sparking fresh talk about whether Fletcher should be in the side. The 25-year-old, who recently joined Sunderland in a big-money move, has not played for his country since he told his manager by text message that he did not want to be involved in a friendly against Northern Ireland last year. Levein stated last month that he had left the door open for Fletcher for a long time but heard nothing, so would not now be considering him for duty. Miller says the Scotland players are not thinking about the situation and insists the most important thing is that the harmony within the camp is not disrupted. Asked if the Fletcher debate was putting undue pressure on the strikers to produce the goods without him, Miller said in the Daily Record: "But we've not got him, I don't think it does.

Holiday

"The situation has to go away until Steven says he wants to play. I get asked this every single time and the answer is always the same: He doesn't want to play. "If somebody makes that decision we have to respect and stand by it. Bringing it up every five minutes is not going to make any difference. "If he decides he wants to play, brilliant, but he doesn't. He was on holiday this week, wasn't he? I saw that in the papers. "He's the only one who can change his mind. If he wanted to pick the phone up then he would be welcomed back. But you don't want to force somebody to do something they don't want to. We have a good group of players and don't want anything to ruin that."
