Ally McCoist: Insists the SPL title race is the club's main focus

Rangers manager Ally McCoist insists retaining their SPL title is the club's main focus and not the verdict of their tax tribunal.

The famous Ibrox club could face a bill as high as £49million should it lose its dispute with HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC).

Gers are now four points behind arch-rivals Celtic in the title race following a 4-0 success for Neil Lennon's side at Hearts on Wednesday.

A fourth successive league crown is the only trophy Rangers can win this season following last weekend's Scottish Cup exit at the hands of Dundee United.

McCoist believes finishing top of the pile come May was their biggest challenge at the start of the campaign, and that remains the case.

Challenge

Asked if retaining their SPL title was their biggest challenge, McCoist replied: "Absolutely, I would have had it down at the start of the season anyway as the biggest challenge.

"To retain your title when you start out, that's what you aim to do. Anything else is a bonus.

"We know what's left for us and that's obviously the title and everybody is 100 per cent focused on achieving that goal and retaining it."

Reinforcements

Rangers are poised to sign former striker Daniel Cousin on Friday and McCoist insists he will continue to scour the market for reinforcements.

"I'll keep looking and I'll keep asking the questions," he continued. "Of course I will.

"It's not just my duty, it's anybody's duty in managing a team to look to strengthen all the time.

"Because the transfer window is closed, it makes it a little bit more difficult. But if the opportunity arose, I would look to use it."
