Rangers striker Kyle Lafferty insists he still has the appetite to play for Northern Ireland.

Lafferty's club colleague Lee McCulloch has quit the Scotland scene, but the 21-year-old has no plans to follow his team-mate's example.

The former Burnley youngster missed Northern Ireland's opening 2010 World Cup qualifiers with a back injury, but remains keen to play for his country.

Asked if he still had an appetite for that level of football, the lanky striker replied: "Definitely. I can't wait to walk out in a Northern Ireland shirt.

Confidence high

"Most fans over there are Rangers fans, so I definitely still have an appetite.

"Scotland got a good result, as did Northern Ireland against the Czech Republic, and so confidence is high.

"Our problem is away from home, but we fancy our chances against anybody at home.

"Nigel Worthington has spoken to me and told me to work hard and see how it goes.

"But if I'm fit and playing for Rangers then hopefully I will be in the squad."
