Rangers finally gained a measure of revenge over Hibernian with a 2-0 win at Ibrox to leapfrog their opponents into third in The SPL on Saturday.

Having lost their previous three matches against Tony Mowbray's Hibs, Alex McLeish's beleaguered side were able, on this occasion, to claim a relatively comfortable win.

Kris Boyd shot the hosts into the lead in the 40th minute and captain Barry Ferguson added a second in the 74th minute to round off victory.

Hearts, too, put recent troubles behind them with a 3-0 win over Motherwell at Tynecastle.

The game was effectively over before it had started from the visitors' perspective when Edgaras Jankauskas hit a quick brace (4 & 14).

Calum Elliot embellished the scoreline with a third goal in the 78th minute.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle claimed a 4-2 win at struggling Dundee United.

Despite twice taking the lead Craig Brewster's side were soundly beaten but it had looked promising for the hosts when Charles Mulgrew struck twice to sandwich a strike from the visitors' Darren Dods.

But from then on in it was one-way traffic and straight from the restart Dennis Wyness scored.

Three minutes later and the visitors had the lead for the first time in the match when Craig Dargo notched. The win was secured by Alan Morgan's finish five minutes from time.

Kilmarnock continued their fine season with a 3-1 win at the expense of bottom club Livingston.

Steven Hislop had given the visitors the lead but Gary Wales (22) and Steven Naismith (27) completed the turnaround before Danny Invincible added a third goal in the 59th minute.

Elsewhere, Aberdeen claimed a 1-0 win over Falkirk at Pittodrie with Jamie Smith the matchwinner.
