Villarreal midfielder Roger Garcia is believed to be the latest transfer target for Rangers boss Alex McLeish.

The former Barcelona star has helped the unfashionable Spanish side reach the semi-finals of the Uefa Cup, knocking Rangers' local rivals Celtic out of the competition along the way.

McLeish was reportedly at El Madrigal to see the semi-final encounter with Valencia and kept a close watch on the clever schemer, who scored in the 2-0 win over Martin O'Neill's men in the previous round.

Roger started his career with Barca before heading to neighbours Espanyol, where he showed his class and earned a Bosman move to Villarreal.

The 27-year-old is under contract until 2005 and is a left-sided midfielder who possesses good vision and technique.

The Gers previously showed an interest in the Catalan player in January, 2003.
