Rangers striker Steven Thompson has vowed to push Celtic all the way for honours next season.

The Gers have lagged behind their Old Firm rivals this season and are set to finish this season without any silverware just 12 months after winning the Treble.

Thompson has promised an improved Rangers team next season and insists they will mount a greater challenge to Celtic.

"Hopefully we can start to win some silverware again next year and I think we are more than capable of doing that," said Thompson.

"It will be an awful lot closer than it has been this year and I am confident the manager will get the right mix of players in the summer.

"The hunger from having won nothing this year will drive us on to greater things next year.

"You can understand the fans' frustrations after winning nothing but believe me, the players are frustrated as well and we don't like the fact that we have not won matches.

"It is something we have to put right and, with a lot of hard work next season, we will put it right."
