ST JOHNSTONE have signed Rangers striker Peter MacDonald for £125,000.

The 20-year-old has signed a three-year contract at McDiarmind Park and may make his debut in Saturday`s game against Dunfermline.

"He's a talented young striker at 20 and has scored a few goals at Ibrox and hopefully he'll try to make the step up the ladder with us," said Saints manager Sandy Clark.

"He's a very young player, who I think will do very well for us and he'll be involved in the first team tomorrow.

"Hopefully he'll be a very good player for us and he's had a good education with Rangers.

"I wouldn't have signed him if I didn't think he could play in my team and I'm hoping he continues to progress, but I don't want to put too much pressure on him."

Clark has moved for MacDonald, less than 24 hours after selling Momo Sylla to Celtic for £750,000.

"Obviously Momo has gone, but that's the way football works." Clark said.

"Momo had a good opportunity to move to a bigger club.

"But we have moved quickly to sign Peter MacDonald and I'm always looking to bring in new players to strengthen the squad."
