Ronny Deila described Celtic's goalless draw against St Johnstone as a "crazy game" on a McDiarmid Park pitch where you "could grow potatoes."

Saints substitute James McFadden and midfielder Murray Davidson came closest to finding the net as they both hit the post in a game were there was a host of missed chances at both ends of the park.

"It was a crazy game. Way too open for my taste," Deila said

"Maybe it was fun to watch from the stand with the chances but we were everywhere defensively.

"Offensively we created some chances so that was okay but it was a miracle it was 0-0.

"You can grow potatoes out there.

"Strange things will happen and that was a strange thing."

Deila was more circumspect when asked about Dedrick Boyata, the 24-year-old Manchester City reportedly targeted for a loan move as defender Jason Denayer is set to return to City in the summer after his loan spell at Parkhead.

"We will see. We are talking with a lot of players now, going around trying to strengthen our side and he is one of them. We will see if we can make it or not," Deila added.

With only a trip to Aberdeen remaining next week, Tommy Wright's men moved into fourth place, one point ahead of Dundee United, who have two games left.

Fourth place will take a Europa League spot if Inverness beat Falkirk in the William Hill Scottish Cup final at Hampden.

The Northern Irishman admitted his heart was in his mouth when James Forrest rounded Mannus but insisted his side deserved a point.

He said: "I couldn't believe it. You maybe blame the pitch but it was one of those moments.

"But I think it would have been unjust if we had lost that.

"I am happy with the points and performance.

"We had 23 attempts on goal against the best team in the country and dominated large parts, so I am delighted with everyone who contributed.

"It showed people what a good side we are and we can play football which I think is overlooked.

"Dundee United can overtake us if they win their two games but they have to win them."
