Bolton boss Neil Lennon has admitted he would love to be reunited with Celtic midfielder Kris Commons at his new club.

The former Bhoys manager took over the cash-strapped Sky Bet Championship outfit this week, with the task of steering the Trotters off the bottom of the table.

Commons has not been a regular starter under new Celtic boss Ronny Delia, and after being a vital component of his success at Parkhead, Lennon admitted given the chance, he would love to sign the 31-year-old again.

“Kris scored 32 goals for me last year,” Lennon told the Daily Record.

“Of course I would be interested in him, at the right price.

“But does Kris want to come here? I’ve never had that conversation.

“I would be pretty certain Celtic would be unwilling to let him go.

“A month ago he was in talks with the club about extending his contract.”

Lennon also reiterated that there will be no quick fix at the Macron Stadium, and building a squad capable of challenging at the right end of the league will take time.

"I don’t think there will be wholesale changes. It’ll have to be a gradual process," Lennon added.

"I knew there was quality here and for whatever reason they have not been producing it. It’s up to me to change that.

“I will look to strengthen in January if I can and if it is financially possible and the right player becomes available.”
