Lennon content with point

Celtic boss Neil Lennon declared himself happy with his side's start to their Champions League campaign despite being held at home by Benfica.

The Scottish champions failed to create too many clear goalscoring chances in a hard-fought encounter at Celtic Park.

Lennon was happy with his side's performance and admits the only disappointment was their lack of cutting edge in the final third.

"I'm pleased," he said. "It was a tough game against a very good side. I thought we coped more than admirably and played very, very well.

"I think we'll improve as the tournament goes on. Our next game's away and they're always a different animal but it's a good start."

Frustration

Lennon admitted to a bit of frustration at the lack of chances created by his players, saying: "Benfica set themselves up to be well organised and it was more of a tactical game than anything else.

"But you know these players are learning as they go along - it's their debut - and I think they coped very well with it.

"There were exemplary performances from Adam Matthews, Victor Wanyama, Scott Brown...Charlie Mulgrew I thought was fantastic and Miku for his home competitve debut was excellent."

"If you go through the whole team, there wasn't many who played below par really, so in terms of the team performance I'm pretty happy with that and we move forward.

Lennon added: "Maybe there was a wee bit of nervousness and hesitation at times and that's understandable, but they've had a sample of it tonight, they've felt it and I hope they draw a lot of confidence from it."
