Bhoys boss confident midfielder will sign new contract

Neil Lennon admits he is unsure where Celtic stand regarding contract talks with Scott Brown, but is confident an agreement will be reached. The noises coming out of Parkhead since the start of the season have suggested that a deal is close. Brown revealed at one stage that only 'nit-picking' on his behalf was delaying the inevitable. The midfielder, who is currently nursing an ankle injury, is yet to put pen to paper, though, and will see his current contract expire at the end of the season. Lennon believes there is little threat of the Scotland international leaving on a free transfer and is confident the relevant paperwork will be completed in the near future.

Terms

"I don't know where we are with that one," Lennon said ahead of Wednesday night's Scottish Communities League Cup quarter-final with Hibernian at Easter Road. "As far as I was aware, the terms were agreed and it was just the case of the agent's fee being sorted out so I don't know how further down the line we are with that. "I haven't had the chance to speak to Scott about it because he has been down in London seeing a specialist about his ankle injury. "He could become a free agent but I am hoping that is not going to be the case. I would like to think so." Lennon has more pressing concerns ahead of the trip to Leith as more injuries have stretched his squad further. Striker Mohamed Bangura could require surgery on his knee while Glenn Loovens came off during Sunday's 2-1 win over Aberdeen with a hamstring injury and stand-in skipper Mulgrew, who scored the winner, picked up an ankle knock which leaves him doubtful.
Specialist
"Bangura is going to see a specialist tomorrow (Wednesday) and after that he we will know whether or not he requires surgery on his knee problem," he said. "We are hoping Glenn Loovens will be a week to 10 days and Charlie Mulgrew is pretty doubtful as well with an ankle problem." Lennon has also revealed that Mark Wilson may be forced under the knife at some stage. He said: "Eventually Mark might need surgery on one of his knees. It is a question of keeping him ticking over at the minute. "He gets a bit sore after training some days and we have to be mindful of that. But if we can get as much out of him as we did last year then we will be absolutely thrilled."
