Gers stay on top; Bhoys climb into second

Rangers kept their top spot in the Scottish Premier League with victory at Dundee United while Celtic moved into second place after seeing off Motherwell. Rangers claimed a 1-0 victory over 10-man Dundee United to retain their spot at the top of the table after Kyle Lafferty grabbed a second-half goal following Johnny Russell's straight red card in the 30th minute. Celtic decisively leapfrogged Motherwell into second place thanks to a 4-0 victory over Stuart McCall's side at Parkhead, with James Forrest scoring either side of strikes from Joe Ledley and Ki Sung-Yueng. Gregory Tade opened the scoring for Inverness against Hearts but the hosts failed to hold on for three points as Stephen Elliott found the equaliser late on to draw 1-1. Kilmarnock edged out Dunfermline Athletic 3-2 in a tight encounter at Rugby Park thanks to Czech defender Zdenek Kroca's 62nd-minute winner. St Mirren and St Johnstone were forced to share the spoils after neither side could break the deadlock in their goalless draw.
