Izaguirre injury opens the door for a spot at left-back

Charlie Mulgrew is hoping to be given an opportunity in the Celtic team by manager Neil Lennon following the injury to Emilio Izaguirre. Honduran left-back Izaguirre is facing up to six months on the sidelines after suffering a fractured ankle in last weekend's victory at Aberdeen. Izaguirre was replaced by Mulgrew in the left-back slot at Pittodrie and he believes he has what it takes to fill the role on a more permanent basis. Mulgrew said: "Emilio's injury is very disappointing for everybody, he will be a big loss to the team and everybody is gutted for him. "I don't know if it's my preferred position but I can play there. I've played there a lot and I'm comfortable there. "Wherever I play, I just try to do my best and if I play well, I enjoy it. I don't have a preferred position." Izaguirre picked up a string of Player of the Year awards last season, but Mulgrew claims he is not daunted by the prospect of trying to replace such an influential figure. He said: "You can't think like that, you've got to think about your own game. "You can't compare yourself to other people. You've got to come in and do the job you know you can do and get on with it. "I've got to believe in myself and if I'm chosen to play there I have to do my best and I'm confident I can do a job there."
