Celtic have told Emilio Izaguirre to return to the club for assessment after he damaged his hamstring.
The Honduras international sustained the injury while preparing for his country's Gold Cup campaign in the United States.
Scotland's Player of the Year is now doubtful for the start of the new SPL season, a headache manager Neil Lennon could do without.
The 25-year-old is gutted to miss out on featuring in the Gold Cup for Honduras as he knows the nation's followers were looking forward to seeing him play.
"I was told by Celtic they want me back to continue my therapy," explained Izaguirre.
"I can confirm I will return in a week or two. It's very painful for me right now.
"I know I will receive a lot of criticism from people in Honduras who are asking why I can play the whole season for Celtic and not play now for Honduras. But only God himself knows why things like this happen.
"And only I know how I feel about playing for my country."
