Bhoys stopper insists last Old Firm game in the past

Celtic defender Mark Wilson does not believe the last Old Firm derby will have any impact on Sunday's Co-operative Insurance Cup final with Rangers. The Bhoys edged past Gers in their recent Scottish Cup replay at Parkhead, but the contest was marred by three red cards for the visitors while Neil Lennon and Ally McCoist squared up after the full-time whistle. The teams meet for the sixth time this season at Hampden Park on Sunday and Wilson believes both sets of players will have moved on following the unsavoury scenes at Parkhead on 2nd March. "I would hope that is all forgotten about now," explained Wilson. "As players you tend to move on. "One Old Firm game is totally different to the next. This is a totally different occasion, it's a cup final, a lot of eyes on everyone and a lot has been made of it, so hopefully the players will be on their best behaviour. "Sunday is an important one, there has been talk of trebles but this is the first chance to win something." Wilson is hoping to conclude the week with silverware after extending his stay earlier on by penning a new one-year contract extension.

Patience

The former Dundee United man was always keen to stay at Parkhead and he has thanked the club for their patience having spent large periods on the sidelines injured. "It's always a fear when you have been at the club this length of time and injuries have plagued my career here," he continued. "I felt I was lucky enough to get the last contract and earlier on in the season I was out for the first few weeks, I thought that might have ruined my chances. "The manager has been totally understanding, he has allowed me to train days when I want to train and pull out when I want to pull out, and no doubt that's helped me. "I had a few meetings with him over the last week or so and talked over things. He said he wanted me to be here, be part of his team and part of his plans. As a player, that's all you can hope for. "I never want to leave this club, it's a club I've always supported. So to get a new deal is fantastic and I hope I'm part of some good things over the next few years."
