Steven Pressley is hoping to be picked for Scotland's Euro 2008 qualifier against Italy at the end of the month.
The Celtic defender is suspended for the Group B game against Georgia on 24th March after being sent off in the defeat to Ukraine last October.
But he will be available to play in Bari four days later and is desperate to return against the World Cup winning Italians.
However, new boss Alex McLeish will be forced to select a replacement against Georgia and Pressley admits he could struggle to regain his place in the side if others impress.
"Other people have the opportunity to stake a claim under the new manager while I'm suspended, but I hope Alex sticks by me," Pressley told the Celtic View.
"If other players come in and do well, I might have to be patient - that's football."
Pressley has also backed Celtic team-mate Stephen McManus to force his way into the Scotland starting line-up for the Georgia match.
"He's been involved in the last four or five squads and his form with Celtic has been excellent," praised Pressley.
"He's shown that he can play at the highest level and I'm sure he will have a successful international career."
