Rangers boss Walter Smith has played down reports linking the club with a move for Celtic's Shaun Maloney.
Maloney's future at Celtic is up in the air with his current contract expiring in the summer and talks over a new deal stalling.
The 24-year-old's agent is set to meet Celtic later this week to discuss Maloney's future, with a number of clubs including Fulham thought to be monitoring his situation.
Rangers have also been mentioned as possible suitors for the talented forward and although Smith admits he is an admirer of Maloney any move would be unlikely.
"There has been no contact between myself and (Celtic manager) Gordon Strachan, the player or his agent," Smith told The Herald.
"So although I do rate Shaun, any such move would be fraught with difficulties."
