Celtic star Shaun Maloney is set to travel to Germany to undergo a hernia operation.
Maloney has been struggling with a double hernia problem and has missed pre-season training.
The young Scottish international is facing a race against time to be fit for Celtic's opening UEFA Champions League game as he is expected to be sidelined for a month.
Bhoys boss Gordon Strachan is confident that surgery will cure the problem for Maloney.
"I would think it will be three to four weeks before Shaun plays again," said Strachan.
"He had struggled all through pre-season. It's been bothering him so we decided he would be as well to have the operation now as he would have to get it done eventually.
"But things are still going well for him. This is just a blip. "
Strachan also revealed that Bobo Balde is likely to be sidelined for at least another month.
"Bobo Balde should be out for four weeks," added Strachan.
"I'd have liked to have had him in pre-season but it wasn't to be. The physios say it will still be four weeks."
