Lawson lands new Bhoys deal

Celtic youngster Paul Lawson has signed a new deal at Parkhead.

Celtic youngster Paul Lawson has signed a new contract at Parkhead.

The deal will keep the midfielder at the Glasgow giants until the summer of 2008.

Lawson has broken into the Celtic first team this season and made his debut against Dunfermline in August.

The Scotland Under-21 international expressed his delight at winning a new deal at Celtic.

"It was great to be offered one," Lawson told the club's official website. "I felt I've done quite well this year, obviously I've still got a way to go, but the manager has shown a bit of faith in me by offering this new deal.

"I wasn't really thinking about it at that moment in time, but now that it's come along it's excellent."

Celtic manager Gordon Strachan also believes that Lawson can establish himself as a regular at Parkhead.

"Paul is coming along great and we are delighted to be able to reward him with this new extension to his contract," said Strachan.

"Paul can see other young players such as Aiden McGeady, Stephen McManus, Ross Wallace and Shaun Maloney doing well in training and reserve matches and being given a chance in the first team and he knows he certainly has that same opportunity."
