Celtic trial Christanval

Celtic have handed a trial to former Barcelona defender Philippe Christanval.

Celtic have handed a trial to former Barcelona defender Philippe Christanval.

The 26-year-old, who had a trial with Arsenal earlier this summer, has joined up with Celtic this week to train with the first-team squad.

Christanval is looking for a new club after being released by Marseille at the end of last season.

Bhoys boss Gordon Strachan is keen to bolster his defence having seen them concede 13 goals in their six games so far this season and the continued doubts over the long-term future of Bobo Balde.

Strachan and his coaching staff will gaze an eye over Christanval in training and he could be offered a deal at Parkhead if he impresses.

Celtic have also been linked with moves for Helsingborgs duo Andreas Granqvist and Atiba Hutchinson.

Both players have impressed at Helsingborgs and have attracted the interest of a host of clubs across Europe.

Celtic are now thought to be ready to steal a march on their rivals by tabling bids for the midfield duo.
