Celtic regained their two-point lead at the top of the table with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Hearts.

Substitute Craig Beattie was the hero for Celtic netting the winner 13 minutes from time after former Celtic target Paul Hartley cancelled out Alan Thompson's first half opener.

Celtic broke the deadlock on 25 minutes very much against the run of play when Bellamy fired in cross which Alan Thompson got on the end of it to drill a shot past Craig Gordon via a deflection off Robbie Neilson.

Hearts missed a great chance to draw level six minutes before the break when Graham Weir headed straight at Rab Douglas six yards out.

The home side did equalise on 71 minutes with boyhood Celtic fan Hartley drilling a shot home from 18 yards.

Celtic hit back and restored their lead six minutes later with Beattie getting on the end of Stilian Petrov's pass to score.

Hearts' misery was compounded in the final minute when player-manager Steven Pressley was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Celtic held on to take all three points to go two points clear at the top of the table and victory next week at Motherwell will secure the title for Martin O'Neill's men.

Dunfermline secured their SPL status with a last- gasp 1-0 win over Dundee United.

Gary Mason's last minute goal Mark Kerr earned The Pars all three points although the final touch appeared to come off Mark Kerr before going into the net.

With some of their relegation rivals playing each other next weekend the win ensures Dunfermline's safety with one game to play.
