There was a big upset for the league leaders at Celtic Park at the hands of a hungry Aberdeen.

Although Celtic have retained their position at the top of The SPL they lost in a five-goal thriller at home.

Aberdeen scored two very early goals through Darren Mackie and Fernando Paquinell in the first six minutes.

John Hartson replied with two goals of his own, taking his tally to ten goals this season.

But the night belonged to 19-year-old John Stewart who scored the winner in the final minute of the game, scoring his first goal in senior football.

Rangers also went behind against Dunfermline after a 22nd minute Craig Brewster goal.

Rangers were able to claw back the victory in the second half from a Jean-Alain Boumsong goal and a Nacho Novo penalty.

Rangers' victory means that the rival Glaswegian club have closed the gap at the top of The SPL to just four points.

Elsewhere, it was a goal apiece at Tannadice Park for Dundee United and Hearts.

The first goal was scored after just five minutes by Hearts' Kevin McKenna. United's reply came midway through the second half from Mark Wilson.

This draw now means that Dundee United prop up the table as Inverness Caledonian Thistle took a 2-1 win against Dundee.

Graham Bayne scored late in the first half for Inverness and Juanjo opened the second half by scoring Inverness' second.

Steve Lovell was able to salvage a goal for Dundee but they were forced to accept defeat.

Hibernian also closed the gap on Celtic as they were host to Livingston.

The home side were able to stamp their authority at Easter Road with two early goals from Guillaume Beuzelin and Steve Fletcher.

The game looked like it was all over, but Livingston were awarded a penalty which was converted by Derek Lilley in the second half.

It was a close fought battle at Fir Park between Motherwell and Kilmarnock.

But it was Kilmarnock who triumphed when Colin Nish hit the target in the 57th minute.
