The Well started Boxing Day rooted to the foot of the table, but James McFadden`s goal on 65 minutes sunk Alex McLeish`s injury-hit Gers.

Despite their lowly placing, Motherwell could have a major say in who wins the title as one of their four victories this term came against Celtic.

Dundee United have been relegated to the foot of the table after slipping to a 3-0 defeat at Livingston, who secured the points through goals by Camacho, Marvin Andrews and David Bingham.

Kilmarnock cheered their travelling fans with a fine 2-0 win at Dunfermline - Gary McSwegan and Kris Boyd netting the second-half goals.
