The visitors revived memories of February 2000 when Paul Ritchie cancelled out an early Shaun Maloney goal as Celtic moved into the last eight of the CIS Cup.
However Welsh international John Hartson, getting a rare start, showed Martin O`Neill what he can do with a goal on 20 minutes.
Alan Thompson eased the nerves with a strike on the stroke of half-time, and The Bhoys cruised through the remainder of the match.
Hartson (pictured) grabbed his second of the night on the hour, but Dennis Wyness kept Celtic honest with a goal for Caley on 72 minutes.
Hearts were made to work extremely hard by Ross County, but a Steven Pressley penalty on 56 minutes set them on their way to a 3-0 win.
Jean-Louis Valois made the game safe with a strike on the hour mark and Stephen Simmons sealed the win with a goal on 85 minutes.
