LILLE president Michel Seydoux has denied that the club's star defender Pascal Cygan is on the brink of signing for Celtic.

The centre back was outstanding against Manchester United in last season's Champions League, and attracted attention from Bhoys boss Martin O'Neill.

Some reports have claimed that Cygan has already had a medical with the Scottish Premier League champions, but Lille refute suggestions that a £4.8 million deal is done.

"His departure is not certain and we have not received any offer from Glasgow," stated Seydoux.

"There is nothing currently."

West Ham manager Glenn Roeder is another huge admirer of the 28-year-old.

Meanwhile, Lille are keeping an eye on Monaco's bid to buy Nice's Patrice Eva, because it could give them the green light to swoop for Eric Abidal.
