ABERDEEN defender Jamie McAllister was shocked after Celtic striker John Hartson needlessly "lashed out" at him after the Scottish Cup quarter final meeting on Monday.

The Welshman appeared to kick out at the young Dons defender after a challenge and was dismissed by referee Hugh Dallas.

McAllister suffered no injury from the clash, but he is convinced the intention was there from the powerful striker to cause him serious injury.

"I'm alright," said McAllister. "It more or less caught my shoulder.

"He's scraped my shoulder from the studs, but it's something or nothing.

"I'm surprised by it because there was no need to do it because they were 2-0 up.

"I don't know why he did it - maybe it was just a spur of the moment thing. But there was nothing sinister between us.

"I've come through the back of him and won the ball and we've fell on the deck and he's just lashed out."

Celtic boss Martin O'Neill will look at the incident on video before deciding whether or not to fine his player if he is guilty of the offence.

"If John Hartson deserved his red card then he will be fined accordingly. I will have a look at all the incidents again on Tuesday before I say too much.

"If it proves to be deserved, then we can't afford these things at this stage of the season - to lose players in a manner like that."
