St Johnstone midfielder Murray Davidson will be out of action for around three months following his latest injury.
Saints manager Tommy Wright feared the 27-year-old would be missing for the whole season after he went off with a knee problem during his side's 1-0 Europa League defeat to Alashkert on Thursday night.
There was relief at McDiarmid Park when the scan results showed he had not ruptured his cruciate ligament, but Davidson faces more rehab after being out for eight months last year with a ruptured knee tendon.
"Muzz has had the knee scanned this afternoon and the news is that he has stretched rather than ruptured his cruciate but there is also bone bruising,” Wright told St Johnstone's official website.
"The upshot of that is that we are looking at a minimum of three months out which is still bad news but at least not confirmation of what our worst fears were last night.
"Murray has been so unlucky with injuries and I'm disappointed for him that he'll miss the opening part of the season but weighed against what we feared, there has to be a certain level of relief for everyone."
Meanwhile, Wright has urged St Johnstone fans to come out and help his team overturn their first qualifying round deficit.
