Glasgow City manager Eddie Wolecki Black has left Scotland’s leading women’s football club by mutual consent after seven years in the job.

He was named as the first full-time coach of a ladies team in the SWPL in 2008 and led his side to every league title available since and each of the last 12 domestic trophies on offer.

Wolecki Black also guided Glasgow to the quarter-finals of the 2014/15 Champions League for the first time after previously twice reaching the last 16.

He spoke in the lead-up to those games of the glass ceiling City had hit in the sense his team were not professional while other sides competing in the latter strages were.

With expansion of the tournament planned by UEFA which would see more teams from leading nations participate, Wolecki Black believed it would be difficult for his side to go so far again.

Having dominated the Scottish game for a number of years with City, the 50-year-old - a coach at City for a year before he became manager - admits he has lost an edge and decided to step down with the club’s blessing.

Wolecki Black said: "In football they say a manager has a shelf life of four years at one club. I have been fortunate to have had double that time at Glasgow City.

“We have managed to achieve some wonderful memories and the highs far outweigh the lows and I would like to thank everyone who has played a part in our success throughout my time.

“Without their support, loyalty and hard work I doubt I would have lasted as long. I have nothing but praise for the club and of course will still take a huge interest in their future.

"After eight years my enthusiasm was not what it once was and the club deserve better than that. A new opportunity awaits me and it is a fresh start for Glasgow City.

"The past will now remain a standard bearer for the club. I hope the new manager can take the club to the next level and keep the name of Glasgow City prominent across the whole of Europe."
