Kilmarnock goalkeeper Craig Samson has been called into the Scotland squad ahead of the matches against Qatar and Republic of Ireland.

The 31-year-old has been drafted in by Scotland boss Gordon Strachan after Dundee keeper Scott Bain withdrew due to injury.

Bain pulled out of the squad with a knee problem after being added to the party when Hull City's Allan McGregor was rested after playing with an injury.

Although Samson is uncapped at senior level, he has played six times for Scotland at U21 level.

The much travelled Samson, who started his career at Kilmarnock, won a League Cup medal with St Mirren before returning to Rugby Park in 2013, and has since made 78 appearances for the club.

Craig Gordon of Celtic and Cardiff City’s David Marshall are the other keepers in Strachan's squad for Friday’s friendly at Easter Road and the European Qualifier in Dublin on June 13.
