Dundee United have rejected two bids for Stuart Armstrong, according to Sky sources, one from Celtic and the other from Burnley.

The midfielder, capped by Scotland at U21 level, is in demand on the back of another impressive season on Tayside, underlined by a run of six goals in 11 matches.

Celtic have already another Tannadice prospect Gary Mackay-Steven on a pre-contract agreement, but the Scottish champions will have to up their offer for Armstrong.

And they face competition from the Premier League now that Burnley have entered the race, although manager Sean Dyche seems reluctant to be drawn into a bidding war.

Dyche said: "Different offers have been in for players. One's been rejected today. He was more of a development style player in our world - a good young player we think who could learn with us. That won't happen now, by the looks of things.

"We've had offers in for more recognised players that haven't got over the line at the moment, but we'll see where that takes us."

Dyche's squad already contains three full Scotland internationals while a fourth, Scott Arfield, has regularly been watched by Gordon Strachan's assistant Mark McGhee in recent months.
