The Aberdeen juggernaut shows no sign of slowing as they won 2-0 at St Mirren to record an eighth consecutive league victory - and an equal number of clean sheets.

Celtic have elected to take a sunshine break in Gran Canaria this week but Derek McInnes' side made light of the slightly more inclement conditions in Paisley to ease four points clear of the champions.

Home skipper Kenny McLean worked Scott Brown in the Aberdeen goal with a firm strike early on but the action soon swung down the other end as Marc Ridgers foiled Adam Rooney and Niall McGinn in quick succession.

John McGinn was the next to try his luck for the hosts - who have yet to win at home this season - but Brown was again equal to it before two goals in as many minutes settled the contest.

There was a deal of good fortune about the first as Niall McGinn's cross (31) was caught by the wind and Ridgers was all at sea as the ball swirled over his head and dropped into the net.

There was no luck about the second moments later as Johnny Hayes fizzed in a great delivery and Shay Logan (33) raced in to poke home from four yards.

McGinn's free-kick picked out Adam Rooney but the striker could not direct his header on target and Andrew Considine was the next to threaten for the dominant men in red but his effort was straight at Ridgers.

John McGinn scuffed a tame effort well wide but the parsimonious Aberdeen defence never looked in serious danger of being breached as the hosts slipped below Ross County at the bottom on goal difference.
