Inverness manager John Hughes was thrilled to see his side return to winning ways after beating Ross County 3-1 in the Highland derby.

Billy McKay sealed all three points for Caley with his 73rd-minute strike after Aaron Doran sent the visitors into a two-goal lead with goals either side of half-time.

Hughes was delighted with his side’s performance after they earned their first win in four matches.

He said: "The difference from the Aberdeen match was we took our chances when they came along. It's nice to get back to winning ways. It is nice to win a derby match, we know what it means to the supporters. I felt we deserved to win it.

"We were just a little bit concerned in the first half we never put it to bed. All credit to Ross County in the second half they came at us and we had to sit in and play on the counter.

"It's nice we can adapt and still score goals playing a different style and a good team performance."

The Caley boss was also happy with Doran’s contribution as he made it five goals for the season after his double.

Hughes said: “He showed a bit of discipline today. He's a great boy about the place and I think he can get better. I'm really pleased for him."

Ross County boss Jim McIntyre was left disappointed with his side’s performance - the defeat means they remain rooted to the bottom of the Scottish Premiership, without a win in seven games.

He said: "It was not good enough from start to finish. I thought Inverness pretty much dominated the game. You could see why I made the early changes, I wasn't pleased with the level of performance. I thought they were sharper than us and did most things better than us."

McIntrye made two changes before half-time in an attempt to improve his side’s chances during the game, and admitted his frustration over taking action so early.

He said: "Of course it's frustrating but that's why we are bottom of the league. The consistency levels from week to week aren't there, that's why we need to make some changes and improve."

McIntyre is already looking towards the January transfer window to improve his squad.

"January is not an easy window,” he said. "We need to get players in, there is no doubt about that. We need to get more consistency - there needs to be some players brought in."
