Celtic manager Ronny Deila is looking forward to the trip to Slovenia to play NK Maribor in the UEFA Champions League play-off first leg.

Celtic go into the game full of confidence after a 6-1 victory over Dundee United at the weekend, which followed up a 3-0 away win against St Johnstone.

The Hoops boss was pleased with his team’s performance on Saturday, but he knows it will be a tough test against the Slovenian champions this Wednesday night - live on Sky Sports.

“Maribor are a good team,” he said. “They’ve been the champions of Slovenia for the past three years. There’s nothing easy in the Champions League so that’s going to be a hard game but we know what we are capable of doing when we’re at our best so we will do everything to prepare for that tie.

“I know we can play much better than we did in the previous round, while we’re also back at Celtic Park for our home game, and those two things can be good for us.

“When you see the supporters and the backing they give the team, it’s fantastic. I’ve seen what European nights are like at Celtic Park, and I understand why we get results here because we have unbelievable fans behind us.

“We have to progress and we’ll see how the progression is after a few games. But I know that, when we’re playing at our best, we can beat anyone at Celtic Park and that’s a good thing to have.”

Maribor v Celtic in the Champions League Qualifying play-offs is live on Sky Sports 5 HD from 7pm on Wednesday.
