Dunfermline fans group Pars United has announced it has been named as the preferred bidder for the club.
The group was competing with one other unnamed party for control of the 128-year-old club and their East End Park stadium.
Pars United said: "We are delighted to announce we have been named preferred bidder by the administrators. There is still a lot of work to do."
Joint-administrator Blair Nimmo added: "This marks a significant milestone in
the search for new owners of both Dunfermline FC and East End Park.
"We will now be focusing on the detail of the deal and look forward to working
with all parties in the weeks ahead."
Dunfermline will begin next season in Division Two, following a play-off defeat to Alloa after suffering a 15-point penalty for entering administration in April.
A transfer ban is set to remain in place until the end of the year at least.
