Dunfermline manager Jim Jefferies had admitted before the match that he feared it could be their last after receiving a winding-up order from Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs.
But the Scottish First Division side reported on Saturday that "positive" talks had taken place in moving towards a supporter-led ownership.
And on the pitch Geggan struck in the 58th minute to level the scores after Greig Spence had given Raith the lead in the first half.
Rovers made much of the early running with Spence impressing in particular, although he failed to hit the target with a header and two shots in the opening 25 minutes.
Dunfermline had to wait to midway through the first half for their first sight of goal when Andy Kirk headed over.
But six minutes before the break Spence slotted home after Brian Graham had split the Dunfermline defence.
Dunfermline increased the pressure in the second half and Geggan seized on Ryan Wallace's header back into the centre to equalise.
Both sides had chances to snatch the victory but Wallace and Spence were among those to squander opportunities.
