Hearts full-back Danny Grainger is facing up to three months on the sidelines after suffering a serious knee injury at the weekend.

The former St Johnstone and Dundee United defender was forced to leave the field against Motherwell after collapsing to the ground in agony.

Hearts boss John McGlynn confirmed he had suffered a partial tear to his anterior cruciate ligament and expects to be without him until at least the early part of next year.

"We're hoping he's not going to need surgery," he said. "I'm gutted for Danny that he's going to miss a good part of the season.

"It's a shame. He's a good lad and he's been a good professional. He's one of our top goalscorers this season with three goals from left-back, which is an excellent return."
