Dundee winger Nicky Riley is convinced the club are moving in the right direction as he targets a regular place in the first team.

Riley, making only his fourth start of the season, had a starring role in the 1-0 win over Hearts - the club's first home victory of the campaign.

"I had a nightmare start to the season," he told the Courier. ''I am over it now and it is just a case of trying to get a run in the team.

"I played 90 minutes against Inverness, 70 against Aberdeen and now another 90 against Hearts. I am still getting a wee bit tired towards the end of games but that is to be expected.

"I feel confident. Now I know what the problem is, it is fine. It is not as though I am going out and playing with the problem still in my head.

"It is just good to be going out there and doing what I do best. Hopefully, the best is yet to come from me.

"I need match sharpness now by playing week in, week out. That is the only way you get back into your stride so, from now on, I want to become a permanent fixture in the team.

"I think the result against Hearts sends out a message to the rest of the SPL. If we can go and pick up another result against Motherwell at the weekend, it will show we really mean business."
