Barry Smith is hoping Dundee's first taste of Friday night football will spark an upturn in their fortunes.

The Dark Blues have only four points to their name after nine SPL games as they prepare to welcome Inverness Caledonian Thistle to Dens Park at the end of the week.

"I think it is a good idea," said the Dundee manager. "It is something different. Hopefully, the crowd turns out for the occasion and we can give them a good result.

"Only time will tell if it is a long-term solution for the game but at least it's a step in the right direction.

"Inverness have had a bit of a resurgence recently so we know it will be nothing other than a very difficult match for which we have to be ready.

"We have been able to work on certain things with there being no game last weekend because of the international break.

"I can sense the lads want to put things right so it's up to us to go out there on Friday and show what we can do."
