Joe Ledley believes Celtic striker Gary Hooper has the ability to follow team-mate Fraser Forster into the England set-up.
Forster was named in the squad for the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against San Marino and Poland after a number of top performances for the Scottish champions.
The £2m summer recruit from Newcastle caught they eye of England goalkeeping coach Ray Clemence at a recent Champions League match and Ledley is convinced Hooper's displays this season will also have alerted the national management team.
"Fraser is a fantastic goalkeeper. He is crucial to Celtic and there's nothing better than having a good keeper behind you," he said.
"Hopefully now this call-up will encourage Gary too. He is very close. I think he can do it, we all think he can.
"He has been one of our best players this season, is scoring week-in, week-out and proved he can do it at the highest level in the Champions League the other night.
"If he keeps doing what he is at the moment, scoring goals and playing well, then hopefully he'll get his call-up."
