McCoist hoping for news inside the next 24 hours

Ally McCoist is still hopeful of bringing Craig Beattie into his Rangers squad and expects discussions to be brought to a close on Wednesday. The former Hearts and Celtic striker has been training with the Gers after being cast into the free agent pool. An offer has been put to him, but no agreement has been reached as yet. McCoist faces a race against time to bring fresh faces into Ibrox before a 12-month transfer embargo comes into effect on 1st September, and he is looking to tie up deals as quickly as possible. He told Rangers' official website: "I have meetings with (chief scout) Neil Murray and (chief executive) Charles Green tomorrow. "We will push a few names forward and see where we go.

"Charles has spoken to Craig Beattie's agent and he made him an offer. "As yet, I have not heard back from him or from Craig but hopefully I will do in the next 24 hours." McCoist is also hopeful of retaining the services of Carlos Bocanegra and Dorin Goian, with the defensive duo yet to follow a number of other senior stars through the exits. He added: "As far as I know, both Carlos and Dorin are staying. "We don't want to lose the spine of the team and those two centre-backs make up a great part of our team so hopefully they will remain with us."
