Saints boss predicts twist in Spaniard's transfer tale

St Johnstone manager Steve Lomas is expecting further offers for star striker Fran Sandaza before the transfer window closes. The Spaniard scored a late winner against Hibernian in the Scottish Premier League at the weekend to take his goal tally this season to 14. Sandaza has already turned down a pre-contract offer from Rangers, insisting he does not want to be a 'cheap' option. But Lomas is convinced there will be more bids for the 27-year-old before next Tuesday. He told the Daily Record: "I think there could be another twist in the tale before the transfer window closes. "I'm not convinced we can relax yet knowing we will have Fran through to the end of the season. But the sooner the window closes the better as far as I'm concerned."

Celebration

Sandaza earned a booking for pulling off his shirt to celebrate his late winner at Easter Road on Saturday and Lomas felt the caution was uncalled for. He added: "I keep hearing football is a spectator sport and it's about entertainment. Ask any of our fans who were at Easter Road and they will tell you those celebrations made their weekend. "I know safety has to be paramount but I sometimes think we are going mad on the politically correct front. So Fran took his top off to celebrate a winner - so what? "Football is an emotional game and where would we be if everyone just sat there saying 'jolly good goal'. It's all about passion. There's no way a player should be getting a booking just for taking off his top to celebrate a goal."
