Rangers boss says former striker has impressed in training

Former Rangers star Nacho Novo could be line in for a surprise return to the Ibrox club after boss Ally McCoist refused to rule out a move for the striker. Novo - who now plays for Sporting Gijon - has been training with the Scottish champions over the festive period while back in Scotland and has caught the eye of McCoist. And with Rangers top scorer Nikica Jelavic having missed Monday's 3-0 win over Motherwell due to injury and Kyle Lafferty picking up a hamstring problem which could rule him out for up to six weeks, it seems McCoist - who also has Steven Naismith on his long-term injury list - could make a move for the Spaniard. "Nacho was back home for Christmas and New Year and phoned us up and asked to come in and do a bit of training," said McCoist. "We obviously welcomed him with open arms and the wee man looked great.

Loved

"He was the same wee Nacho that the Rangers supporters loved for many years here and he is a player that we know has been over the course and distance here. "But, at this moment in time, I can't tell you anything other than he was looking good. I can't say we are interested and I can't rule out interest in any other player either." Novo - who hit 47 goals for Rangers during his time in the SPL - left for Sporting in the summer of 2010 and has netted three times for the Spanish side in La Liga so far this campaign.
