Mason loses appeal, Thomson injures groin
Dunfermline have been hit by the blow that Gary Mason has lost his red card appeal while Jason Thomson has suffered a groin injury.
Mason was dismissed for serious foul play by referee Stevie O'Reilly following a challenge on Johnny Russell in the first half of their 4-1 defeat by Dundee United at East End Park.
The Pars appealed, however, manager Jim McIntyre has revealed the SFA's fast-track tribunal has ruled in the match official's favour.
Unfortunate
"Unfortunately they ruled against it and he has been given a two-match ban," explained McIntyre.
"They thought it was a lunge, we didn't and that's why we appealed, but the appeal backed the referee on this occasion and we move on. It's done and dusted."
In a double blow for Dunfermline, McIntyre has revealed Thomson has also joined the club's injury list.
The knock could not have come at a worse time with the likes of Kevin Rutkiewicz, Nicky Phinn, Andy Barrowman and Steven Bell already sidelined.
He continued: "We've lost another one this week in Jason Thomson, who has done his groin in training, and to lose another player to suspension is really disappointing."
