Shiels to cast eye over free agent

Skysports.com understands Kilmarnock have invited Northern Ireland international Liam Boyce for a trial at Rugby Park. Boyce is looking for a new club after securing his release from Werder Bremen earlier this month. The highly-rated 20-year-old joined Werder Bremen from Cliftonville for an undisclosed fee last September after scoring 19 goals in his debut season in the Irish League. However, despite being a regular scorer for Werder's Under 23 side, which is the equivalent of their reserves, Boyce failed to establish himself in the Bremen side and opted to leave in search of regular first-team action. News of his availability alerted Killie boss Kenny Shiels who is keen to have a closer look at his fellow Northern Irishman. Boyce is expected to spend two weeks at Kilmarnock so that Shiels and his coaching staff can cast an eye over him. Blackburn are also thought to be keeping tabs on Boyce's situation and could rival Kilmarnock for the forward.
