Ex-Blackburn forward looking to earn a deal at Pittodrie

Former Holland U21 international Maceo Rigters is training with Scottish Premier League outfit Aberdeen. The Dons confirmed on Wednesday that they are taking the opportunity to have a look at the tricky forward. Rigters has come close to securing a move to Scotland before, with Celtic having made a move for his services back in 2007. After starring for Holland at the European U21 Championship that summer, then Bhoys boss Gordon Strachan was keen to bring him on board. Celtic were left disappointed as Rigters eventually opted to try his luck in the Premier League with Blackburn. He failed to make an impact at Ewood Park though, after completing a switch from NAC Breda, making just eight appearances over the course of his four-year contract.

Struggled

Having slipped out of favour at Blackburn, Rigters took in a short loan spell at Norwich and a season-long stint at Barnsley. Once again, though, he struggled to produce his best and was forced to head home last season. He spent the 2010/11 campaign on loan at Willem II, as his contract at Ewood Park ran down. Rovers released him over the summer and he is now available as a free agent. Aberdeen boss Craig Brown is prepared to give the 27-year-old an opportunity to prove his worth and Rigters will be hoping to earn a permanent deal at Pittodrie.
