Rangers have confirmed David Healy is close to agreeing a contract to play for the club next season.

Weir's future at SPL champions remains uncertain

Rangers have confirmed striker David Healy is close to agreeing a contract to play for the SPL champions next season. Healy scored twice in 10 appearances for the Gers in the second half of last term and is available on a free transfer after leaving Sunderland. His time at Ibrox had been interrupted by injury, but the Northern Ireland international is due to link up with Ally McCoist's squad for the coming campaign. However, uncertainty remains over the future of captain David Weir, who is due to be out of contract with Rangers. The 41-year-old defender is waiting to discover if he is part of McCoist's plans for next term, but coach Ian Durrant hopes Weir stays at Ibrox. Durrant said: "Davie is a great person around the dressing room and has been our leader for the last four years. "Hopefully he and the boss can come to an agreement."
