Swede sets sights on Old Firm derby
Freddie Ljungberg says he is ready to play in Sunday's Old Firm derby after arriving at Parkhead ahead of a potential move to Celtic.
The Swedish midfielder will train with the Hoops this week with a view to joining the Scottish Premier League club when the January transfer window opens.
The 33-year-old, who has spent time at Arsenal and West Ham, is eager to ply his trade in Europe again following a stint in the United States.
And he could complete a Glasgow switch in time to feature in Sunday's esteemed league clash against Rangers at Ibrox.
Ljungberg, who recently departed MLS side Chicago Fire, told the
Daily Record: "I've seen the Old Firm derby on television and I've had friends who have been over to the games.
"They have said some amazing things about the fixture so of course I would like to play in it.
Available
"I'm available to play for any club on 1st January so we'll see what happens.
"I'm as fit as I've been for a long time since I had surgery on my hip two years ago."
Celtic manager Neil Lennon, who
earlier revealed that Ljungberg was on his way, added: "It is not a trial or anything like that.
"It's so that we can have a look at him and he can look at us.
"He had a horrendous time with injuries at West Ham but in the last 18 months he has played a lot of games in America.
"You don't lose the quality, he might be missing an edge but we will see how he is."
